There is an old saying to the effect that “if you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.” With that in mind, at a minimum any significant project needs an Action Plan that documents (a) the key tasks and activities required, (b) specific deliverables associated with each activity, (c) individuals responsible for each deliverable, (d) the estimated time required by participants, and (e) the target completion dates. Of course, Action Plans need to be updated on a timely basis, as each project proceeds.
